The United States has suspended all visitor visas for Palestinians from Gaza, citing a pending review of its application procedures, as Israel’s military campaign continues to devastate the enclave.

In a statement released Saturday, the State Department said the decision will remain in effect until a “full and thorough review” of the visa process is completed. A limited number of temporary visas had recently been issued for medical and humanitarian purposes, though officials provided no details on how many were granted.

The announcement came amid pressure from pro-Israel lobby groups and conservative figures in Washington seeking to block Palestinians from entering the country under claims of border security and counterterrorism. The move followed comments from far-right activist Laura Loomer, a political ally of former President Donald Trump, who alleged on social media that Palestinian refugees had entered the United States earlier this month.

Her remarks prompted Republican lawmakers to demand investigations. Representative Chip Roy of Texas said he would pursue a formal inquiry, while Representative Randy Fine of Florida described the entry of Palestinians as a “national security threat.”

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz meanwhile confirmed that arms sales and transfers to Israel will continue under Trump’s leadership. The visa suspension coincides with Trump’s public support for Israel’s military expansion in Gaza and for plans to displace its 2.3 million residents.

In February, Trump said he wanted to turn Gaza into what he called the “Riviera” of West Asia, a project that would require the removal of its population. Reports indicate Israel has explored relocating Palestinians to countries such as South Sudan and Somalia, both marked by conflict and instability.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, have killed 61,897 Palestinians and wounded 155,660. With U.S. military backing, the bombardment and blockade have displaced nearly the entire population and pushed the enclave to the edge of famine.

By halting visas while continuing military support for Israel, Washington deepens its role in a conflict that has left Gaza’s population facing mass displacement, hunger, and one of the deadliest assaults in recent decades.
